Transportation Programs

Resources for Seniors administers 3 different transportation programs:

For additional information about these programs, contact Resources for Seniors' transportation coordinator, Mae Freeman, by calling 919-713-1527.

Medical Transportation

This is a very limited program, intended to serve those who have no other means of transportation to medical appointments. Trips are limited to two or three times per month, due to limited funding. Individuals needing transportation to frequent appointments (such as dialysis or chemotherapy) cannot be served.

Transport is door-to-door, by shared van service and can accommodate wheelchair users. Appointments must be made several days in advance of the appointment, and users must complete enrollment paperwork before their first ride.

To be eligible, individuals must meet the following criteria:

  • Person is at least 60 years old
  • Person does NOT live within the Raleigh or Cary city limits (because these communities have their own transportation programs).
  • Person does NOT have Medicaid (because Medicaid has its own transportation program).
  • Person does NOT have a valid driver's license or is physically unable to drive safely.
  • Person has no other means of transportation

Participants may apply through Resources for Seniors' Transportation Coordinator to be placed on a waiting list for this program. Wait times vary.

Nutrition Site Transportation

This program provides daily transportation to and from nutrition sites offering congregate meals through Meals on Wheels. To participate in this program, individuals must:

  • Be 60 years of age or older
  • Be approved for congregate meals by Meals on Wheels before registering for transportation
  • Live within five miles of an established meals site
  • Register with the Resources for Seniors Transportation Coordinator

There is no charge for Nutrition Site Transportation, though individuals are invited to contribute if able.

  • Be 60 years of age or older
  • Live at Berkeley Spring, Carriage House, Cedar Crest, Chadwick, Club Plaza, Garden Spring, Glenwood Towers, Roanoke Commons, Sir Walter, or Turnberry Apartments.
